BrainPop and BrainPop Jr.
BrainPop and BrainPop Jr. are more than just sites to stream videos! In this activity you will create your own BrainPop login and explore ways to use it in your classroom (this includes specialists, BrainPop covers art, music, health, and more).
Step 1: Create your BrainPop Jr. (k-3) or BrainPop (4-5) login
-Visit brainpopjr.com (grades k-3) or brainpop.com (grades 4-5)
-Select "enter code" at the top of the page and enter the code I sent on 10/27 (let me know if you need me to email it to you again...we aren't allowed to post this).
-Complete the account registration.
Step 2: Give yourself a tour of BrainPop (Jr.)...Please use your laptop for this!
-Browse to find a video that interests you, or choose "Standards" to select a video based on your grade level standards.
-Watch the video. Note that the pause button flashes when it wants you to stop and discuss a question (this is more common in BrainPop Jr.). Then, the video automatically goes back a few seconds to recap what you heard before you paused.
-Check out the resources that go with your video (the icons below the video). These include a word wall (Jr. only), printable or online fillable activity sheets, jokes, additional readings, idea mapping tools (BrainPop only) and more.
-Note about BrainPop (Jr.) on iPads: Make sure you log in, you may use your account or the school account (also emailed on 10/27, this can be shared with students however we cannot post it online). iPads do not contain all of the activities that the web version does, however you can airplay videos from here to your Apple TV/students can watch videos on it.
Step 3: Use it with your class
Use a Brainpop (or Jr.) video with your class along with at least one of the accompanying student activities. Submit a completed piece of student work (for example a completed student activity sheet) to receive credit. To submit work, you can: upload a picture/digital copy of it to your PD google drive folder OR put a paper copy in my box (make sure your name is on it).
Step 4: BONUS Badge-Student Accounts
To earn a bonus badge, create student accounts and get them logging in and working on their own. Within your BrainPop (or Jr.) account, you can have students create accounts to complete activities and submit them to you electronically. Select "My BrainPop" to go through the steps to create a class code and instructions for how students can create their accounts.
Once your class is set up, you can assign videos and activities/quizzes etc. for students to complete and electronically submit to you! To get your bonus badge, send me your course code so I can join your class.
How might you use this? This would be a great tool to start (or continue flipping your classroom). Homework could be to watch a video and take the online quiz. Students would arrive the next day having seen the materials and you would have their quiz data to assess their base knowledge (you can take quizzes on iPads/tablets using the BrainPop app...some of the other features are not accessible).
As always, please let me know if you have any questions/would like to set up a face to face session to go over this!
